Relicblade: Moldorf Bibliothecary

I promised my friend to finish the Moldorf Expedition Faction Set this year so that we could play our first Relicblade campaign together. I made a little progress on that.
I just recently finished the Moldorf Bibliothecary, an eccentric illusionist dwarf wizard capable of summoning a horrific companion which I've painted a pretty long time ago.

I've tried different techniques on this one.
The leather gloves and the big hat were mostly dry brushed to reproduce a heavy worn look.
Regarding the rest of the clothes I went from a green colorscheme to a blue one, after I was not very pleased by how the greens turned out.
I am really happy with the goggles! Gotta admit that I pretty much copied them from guy I follow on instagram, tho. (@_oakenbrush_)

It will probably be December, but I hope I find the time to paint the other two companions very soon, a powerful fighter and razor sharp rogue. Tbc.

Here he is with his summoned horrific friend:

Giant Flies for Rangers of the Shadow Deep

After enjoying Frostgrave with my friends, I was looking forward to Rangers of the Shadow Deep by Joseph A. McCullough. Sadly I haven't gotten around to playing yet, the rulebook sits in my shelf patiently.

When I extracted a list of miniatures I would need to play the actual game, I discovered that there are no real alternatives for Giant Flies other than the Northstar product, which I didn't like. (That being said, I do love a lot of their other products...)

I did a little research and found out that most RotSD players are using rubber flies from China that are supposed to be Halloween trick props I guess.

I gave it a try and ordered them for a couple of bucks. The quality of them isn't too bad. There were some cruel mold lines here and there but they were easily removed with a hobby knife.
The individual wings are removeable so I could prime the body easily without losing the transparity of the wings.

Still the flies looked kinda boring to me, so I decided to make a little adjustment to it. When you look at illustrations of Giant Flies you always see big vibrating eyes. I wanted them to stand out so I decided to grab some Green Stuff and pimp them up a little.

After I primed the miniatures I gave them a quick basecoat of dark grey followed by a lighter dry brush with a hint of caqui.
I went for two different color sets on the eyes, red and blueish. Happy with the results.

Beginnings

Hello there. My name ist Flo and I'm 32 years old. I am a miniature painter from Germany.

I've started the hobby early 2019 when a couple of friends and I played D&D for the first time. Being the DM I had to provide the miniatures so I started painting them.
It became a passion very quickly. Since I wanted the worlds to be as immersive as possible I've also startet to craft the terrain.

I don't really know why I start this blog now, I guess I just want to track my progress cause I've got a lot more to learn obviously. Also I think this hobby is a very beautiful one and it deserves to be published no matter the quality.

Usually I paint only low fantasy miniatures. You won't be finding 40k miniatures here, it's not my vibe I'm afraid. BUT there will be a ton of Oldhammer Orcs and Goblins, which is probably going to be a life long project haha.

At the moment I am working on Giant Flies for Rangers of the Shadow Deep. I will cover the process in the next entry.

That's enough for now.
